Description
It was in 1925 that the construction of the "harbor bridge" began. This was the name of the giant steel linking Montreal with the southern shore. This architectural flourish of the metropolis is the work of the engineer Philip louis pratley. it was inaugurated in May 1930.
On September 1, 1934, his name became officially the jacques-cartier bridge in homage to the Malouin explorer who discovered the saint-laurent in 1534.
Upon its inauguration, all users had to pay to cross it until the abolition of the toll booths in 1962. To date, with its 5 lanes, nearly 35 million vehicles pass through it each year.
